Is my chosen degree recognized?

BHlthSc(ComplMed) and BClinicalPrac(Paramedic) are valid three year Bachelors Degrees conferred by an accredited university.  All CSU degrees are internationally recognized as valid degrees.

Top

Will other universities accept my chosen degree for entry into a post graduate program?

This is hard to answer as the decisions for admitting a student into a post graduate program rest with the other institution (and their entry requirements) rather than CSU. The BHlthSc(ComplMed) and BClinicalPrac(Paramedic) are both considered to be 3 year undergraduate degrees however some institutions have not allowed students to use this an entry into postgraduate programs because there is a large component of credit, the degree is by distance education and/or the subjects are not in the appropriate area for the particular postgraduate program that the student wishes to enter.  You should contact the institution offering your post graduate degree to inquire about entry requirements.  You should also note that CSU also offers many post graduate degrees in residential school and through distance education..

Are honours programs available?

Upon completion of your CSU three year bachelors degree, students may apply for entry into an Honours program.  For BHlthSc(ComplMed) and BClinicalPrac(Paramedic), you would apply for the Bachelors of Medical Science Honours program (BMedSc),  which is a one year fulltime or two years distance education program, provided that their marks are high enough, that suitable supervisors can be found and the School is willing to admit the student. An alternative to the honours program, students could consider the Master of Health Science which has both coursework study and a small research component.

How many courses am I required to complete per semester?

A normal part-time stream is two courses per semester.  You may elect to complete only one course, or more than two courses per semester but it is not recommended to complete more than three courses due to the workload since four courses would be equal to a full time course load.

Top

How are the courses delivered?

Courses are delivered through distance education.  Course outlines, instructor notes, course activities and some required readings will be mailed to you.  You are required to complete the course work, submit assignments (essays, reports, research etc.) for mark assessments and some courses also have exams.  There are no scheduled "classes" but there is a start and finish date for each course with deadlines for assignments and date ranges for exams.  You may be required to find an invigilator (Lawyer, Minister, Teacher etc.) at your own cost to monitor midterm exams and you may be required to travel up to 120 km to an international exam centre to write a final exam.  If one is not within 120 km, CSU will attempt to make arrangements with a local post secondary institution for you.   You are also required to have computer and internet access (at your own cost) for communications with your classmates and instructor and for viewing additional course material.  You will also be required to purchase textbooks which are available at CSU's online bookstore.

What if I started a course and then choose to withdraw?

Does CSU offer post graduate programs?

CSU offers many post graduate programs through distance education and residential school.  Contact edu-au.ca for more information.

Can I split my education between distance education and physically attending school in Australia?

Yes, you can attend one semester and take up to four courses at CSU without actually being enrolled in a residential school.  Not all courses are offered in every semester so careful planning is required  (Note: there is no on campus option for Comp Medicine).  As a student, you can work up to 20 hours per week with your student visa.

Top

What level of paramedic will I be upon completion of the BClinicalPrac(Paramedic) degree?

The degree teaches the academic requirements of the Bachelors of Clinical Practice to the intensive care level (Australia's ACP level) but does not certify you as a paramedic.  To become certified, you must gain employment as a paramedic to gain road experience and work up through their ranks from BLS, P1 and then to the intensive care (IC) level.

Will CSU recognize other University credits or life experience for course credit?

If you are enrolling in a degree completion program, you have already received the maximum credit value allowed and no more credit is usually given.  If you are enrolling in a full program, CSU may review and evaluate other post secondary education and life experience on a case by case basis.   Please ask your recruiter for more information.
